What happens to our bodies after we die is a difficult and deeply personal choice for us and our families. Some of us want to be cremated, while others prefer a traditional burial. But for those of us who want to keep our memory alive in a different way, it can be hard to make sure that we’ll see our last wishes carried out.
Well, today, that’s all changed, because Bennison Funeral Home in Milwaukee, WI is now making gigantic coffins so that entire softball teams can be buried together!
“Nothing felt more special to us than giving people the opportunity to be buried wearing their gloves and custom-printed T-shirts, surrounded by their most cherished intramural teammates,” said Jonathan Yates, Bennison’s current director. “And knowing that you’ll be buried alongside every member of the roster in a bunker-sized coffin and lowered into the earth can give your loved ones solace during this painful process.”
Simply incredible. What originally started off as a humble way to honor the dead has now grown into a way to give everyone the chance to come together around the coffin’s pre-installed beer cooler before an umpire locks the roof and shovels the first clump of dirt into the grave.
“Really, just imagine if the only option available to you was to have to bury your loved one in a coffin that did not include their team’s occasional substitutes,” said Steve Kraft, who lost his father and captain of the Grill Guys six months ago. “I know wherever my dad is, he’s looking down on his Tuesday-night B Team and smiling.”
It can be hard to know how we’ll confront death until we’re faced with it, so thank you, Bennison Funeral Home! Thank you for helping us give a proper goodbye to softball players everywhere.
